You know I remember when I grow up, we were kids trying to turn the radio to listen to the station from Taiwan, we surrounded in the little corner in the countyard or in the kitchen with a little radio in the middle as if it is the most precious gift box is about to pop open with surprises, we try so hard to avoid our parents and suddenly in a quiet moment so gently turn the (this round switches on the radio) yes, only once in every half hour, suddenly by one of us's magic touch, then we hear the radio station of Taiwan is singing some song that is half broken or people are shooting for a boat compitition, or suddenly jump into some news about the top leader is....... then suddenly the big loud noises coming from no where scared us all and suddenly my mom walked in..........

Bai Lng, I am in love with my grandson - he is 2 years and 3 months old. He makes me happy, I think about what I can do for him every minute of the day. He loves toy motorcycles, so I am always buying him some. My son gets mad at me for spoiling him, but I have to do it. It's a grandfather's job.
BTW Bai, you don't always receive a smile when you give love. This morning I gave my grandson a lot of kisses on top of his head. He didn't want to be kissed, so he wiped the kisses off, hit me and told me "Bad boy Ace!" It was so cute! I will have to find him some more bikes (Maybe a Ducati or Moto Guzzi in honor of Daniel). Love is when someone hits you and you love them even more...

Also Bai, I know what you mean about listening to AM radio. I used to lay in bed at night with a tiny transistor radio and the covers pulled over my head and listen to far away radio stations. They always came in better at night.

I think the pictures in the blue dress were from last week when she did the TV promo for Crank 2 - after all, why get dressed up for radio? I had a radio, a small one, when I grew up, it had only 15 watts of eirp with the long wire and all. And I say hello to people I could, far away, for some reason, it did not work for people closer. And I hear a hello come back from across the pacific sometimes. Not often, but it was enough for a kid being a kid.

Daniel mio flytello Italiano, mille ringrazia yous for those titilating photos of Bai Ling. They look like they were taken about 3 years ago when her hair was a little bit longer. I knew about the lights out thing. To me it is just some more bullshit about conserving energy by the global warming idiots. There are too many climatologists who say the Earth is cooling to believe Al Gore and the "carbon credits" he is selling. In the end result such things don't matter. (Unfortunately Milano has more PM10 pollution than any other city in Europe. China has many cities that burn charcoal rich in sulphur for heat and produce a black smog that is very dangerous to health.) I would rather concentrate on beautiful women like Bai Ling.

Daniel, my apologies for mentioning the facts about Milano. I am just concerned about your health. But please get your facts about El Paso/Juarez right: there were more than 6000 murders in Juarez, Mexico last year, and 700 alone last month. And those are just the ones they know about! You are right. They are constantly finding new mass graves with decomposing bodies in them. Luckily they are mostly outside the city in the desert.

We are in much the same situation here as you are in Milano: In a valley between mountains, with occasional winds. And you are right on that point: Our air quality is often rated as poor because we share the same air with Mexico. The peasants there burn anything they can get for heat. Many squatters build shacks out of packing crates and get their water from empty 60 gallon chemical drums. They illegally "borrow" electricity from power lines . Mexico has a reputation for disconnecting the anti-smog equipment on their cars. It is easy for factories there to pay a bribe ("la mordita") and violate enviromental standards.

Daniel, mea culpa. I got my facts wrong! The total drug related deaths in 2008 was over 6,000 for all of Mexico and for Juarez was more than 2,000. So our sister city accounted for 1/3 of the total murders. But like I said, those are just the ones they know about - and they are still finding more bodies every week...

The radio was (and still it is fighting to be...) a place to dream, to wonder... No one knew how it worked, how those voices, songs, news or sounds came home from that distances. Now the images have most of the power (and even the people is not anymore getting amused by the power of the images, they are turning into a common thing, full of meaning and meaningless at the same time)
Why things loose that power to wonder, why this ability to see magic dissapears?
Sincerilly I don't have an answer but my own built answer: routine.
Routine kills, destroys anihilates...
Routinary days kill the spirit, routinary talks kill the friendship, routinary sex kills the attraction...
Routine has no secrets, no place to wonder, to feel amazed, all is the same, and the same, and forever and ever the same. Of course on the other side is comfort, nothing changes vere, always all is equal, predictable...

I just try to keep my environment footprint ( all 6/six of them ) to a minimum. Like using public transportation as often as I can, avoiding buying food in needless plastic packaging, not using much heating, recycling paper, metals, and plastic etc etc. and other minor behaviours.

Daniel, yes I think everyone is doing their bit to recycle, etc. Unfortunately public transportation in El Paso is not yet as good as it is in New York, LA, Chicago, London, Paris, Berlin or Milan. I put over 100 miles per day on my car on the average. Because of our schedules, public transportation just isn't a viable alternative for me or most people here. On the bright side we are not as congested as those other cities and our gas is not as expensive as other countries.
(Gas and diesel in Mexico is even cheaper, but not too many people want to go over there now with the drug cartels fighting for control.)
In Korea they get fined by the garbage police if they do not break their recyclables down into paper, glass, metal, plastic, etc. In England they are starting to put cameras in some recycling bins to catch violators! To me that seems an incredible bit of governmental invasion of privacy, but then 1984 was 25 years ago... (Orwellian reference)
It's getting absurd in some respects. A compact fluorescent light bulb uses less energy but has mercury in it which is not good for the environment. Solar panels are so expensive they will not pay for themselves over their 20-25 year life expectancy. We just have to make the best of what we have and sort the facts from propaganda like Gore's movie with its digitally created polar bears who never really drowned and the "ice shelves" that were styrofoam props taken from a Hollywood movie (The Day After Tomorrow) that Bai Ling wasn't even in...

As for gasoline prices let me tell you this one: 75% of what we pay for litre of gasoline in Italy is due to several taxes added over the years.
And ... among these gasoline taxes, there is a small portion still there which is to finance the Italo/Abissinian war!.

Sorry to hear about the Italo/Abissinian war tax. I know how you must feel. The Budget that Barry's administration is shoving down our throats means we will have at least a deficit of $1 trillion per year for the next ten years, not including the interest. My grandson's grandchildren will still be paying on that when they are my age. The banks say their "toxic assets" -bad mortgages which the Democratic congress forced them to make - are worth 60 cents on the dollar. The market says they are worth 30 cents on the dollar. The government agrees with the banks on their value and wants to take our tax dollars and loan foreign investors our money to buy those bad loans. If they fail, the investors lose nothing because it isn't their money and the government guarantees the investments. So guess who loses? We are SO screwed...
